I had the honor of joining AliceAnne Loftus from @leading_lady_coach on her podcast to talk about the importance of self-awareness in leadership. I had another wonderful opportunity to talk to some ladies this morning about discovering and using their talents and gifts to live life more fully by serving those around them. What is something you are good at, that you enjoy doing, and is meaningful to you? How can you do more of that thing on a regular basis? How can you use that thing to love and serve others?

Yesterday I had the honor and privilege to speak to some incredible women doing amazing things in Baltimore about leadership development. I love my job! .

I had the honor of speaking to military mamas this morning about how to spice up the love between them and their husband. Marriage is hard, but the military lifestyle adds a complexity that can only truly be understood by those who’ve lived it. I’m so grateful for the military edition of The 5 Love Languages by Gary Chapman. Not only does it give a language to articulate your love needs but it has fantastic practical ideas for keeping love alive while apart. Sending so much love to all the military spouses out there (both wives and husbands!). I have the deepest respect for all you do and sacrifice for your family. .

Hi Friends! It’s been a while since I’ve posted and there’s a couple reasons for that. First, you may notice the two cuties in the pic. I’m just coming out of the fog of having our second babe (4 months) while chasing our toddler (23 months). It has been a lot! The second reason (and he’s where things get real) is that I was not feeling connected to the things I was posting. I was throwing lots of good info at y’all but I felt as though I didn’t know you and you don’t know me. In my effort to “be professional” I was remaining cold and distant and it felt very inauthentic. I have decided this year to be more of who I really am on social media — who you’d meet if I was blessed enough to meet you in person. I’d love to get to know you, as well as share who I am with you, imperfections and all. I’d like to invite you on a journey with me this year as I’m putting away all my excuses and going after what I want. I’ve recently joined the @onepeloton community and @allymisslove says it best: I hope you join me, not judge me. At the beginning of February I will share my vision board with you. I hope you will share yours with me, as well, so I can cheer you on! - Much love, Judy

We are going to wrap up our discussion on friendships by talking about the role of friends at work. It is understandable that some may like to compartmentalize their life and keep things at work completely professional. However, the research conducted by Gallup has revealed huge benefits, not from simply having a friend at work but from having a BEST friend at work. Those who had a close friend at work were seven times more likely to be engaged, produced higher quality of work, were less likely to get injured while working, and had a higher overall wellbeing. Unfortunately, they also found that only 30 percent of employees reported having a best friend in the workplace. Are you one of the lucky few who has a close friend at work? If not, revisit last week’s post on close friendships for some tips on how to begin working on deepening a friendship with a coworker you enjoy being around.
